A Narrow Escape
“If we all died together last night, will you feel regret? I will not.” Tom said to us.
Tom, Mike and I are wandering singers. We all like country music and traveling, so we become friends. What we like most is traveling where we singing there.
It was a cold winter. We wandered to Sichuan and sang songs on the streets. Here passers-by stopped to listen to our songs or said hello to us, which made us never feel cold. One day, when we were singing, a red sportscar stopped in front of us. With the car window was rolling down, the thin driver yell to us,“ Let us go to Tibet together, but I only give you one minute to get into my car, will you?” “Why not?” We answered him at the same time. Then we hurried into his car, without carrying our clothes. And our new trip was starting.
On the way to Tibet, we knew the thin driver is called Jack, a Japanese. In the car, we sang, laugh and talked about all kinds of topics, like books, traveling and so on. Suddenly, it was going to snow, and gradually being more and more heavy. Then I felt a little regret to not take my clothes. And Tom astonishedly said,“ we will be covered with the snow, will not we?”Terribly, the snow was too heavy to go forward. Thus, we stayed in the car and started to sing. After a while, Mike suggested,“ Why do not go out to sing and dance?”Then he run out of the car, and we had no choice but to follow him. Tom and Mike played guitar, I played the drum and Jack was a audience. Because of the cool weather, two strings of Mike’s guitar was broken, but it does not matter. Feeling exhausted, we went back to the car to sleep. Even though my shoes was frozen which made me hard to fall asleep.
Day was breaking, looking out of the car window, the earth was a vast expanse of whiteness. We got out of the car, seeing a large number of cars in the back of our car. Alarmedly discoverying that our car was just several steps to the cliff, we all scared to death and took a breath. We had a consensus on that we should help the drivers to get their way. So we began to push the cars to get through the snowfield. Graduately more and more people came with us. The ones whose cars got the right road still came back to help us. At the dark, all the cars were rescued. What made me most impressive was that we were soaked with sweat and tired.
We went back to our car and continued our trip to Tibet. Unexpected, Tom said to us，“If we all died together last night, will you feel regret? I will not.” We all kept silent. For me, I did not know whether I would regret or not. Finally, We arrived Tibet, and said goodbye to Jack.
Decades goes by, I have not see Jack any more. And Mike and Tom, we have not keep in touch yet. Because we all have our peaceful life. But when I remember what Tom said, I feel a sense of gratitude. Now,I will not keep silent. In contrast, I will say me too. Because of you, I have a unforgettable experience and a group brothers who accompany me to have a period of vagabond life.
I hope you have a happy life. What is more, cherishing the fate, letting nature take its course and if we meet again, let us drink happily.
