The Apollo 11 moon landing on July 20, 1969, is one of mankind’s greatest achievements and captivated the world, but the path to take that “one small step” was fraught with danger and uncertainty. Fifty years have passed since that momentous occasion and NASA has now turned its sights to Mars. What will the next 50 years of space exploration bring? On July 17th and 18th, join NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory (NASA/JPL) Solar System Ambassador and Foreign Service Officer Lawrence Foster to celebrate the Apollo 11’s 50th anniversary and discuss NASA’s plans for Mars exploration and eventual colonization. The NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador program works with expert citizen scientists to share the latest science and discoveries related to the U.S. space program. These Solar System Ambassadors teach, train, and present NASA’s findings at events around the world. This informal discussion will help you share the excitement of the 50th anniversary of NASA’s moon landing with your family and friends. The same program will be offered on two dates. Attend one time for a look at the moon and beyond. (Select and register to attend one of these sessions but not both.)
This program is not suitable for children under 8. Please make sure the name used to register for the event matches the name on your ID. Individuals may register for one seat per event. Those who register multiple times for the same event risk having all registrations cancelled.
Doors will open and security screening will commence at least 15 minutes before the program starts. You must bring a valid physical photo ID in order to enter the Shanghai American Center (ShAC). Copies or pictures of IDs will not be accepted. People who RSVP’d will be admitted first; all others may be accommodated on a space available basis.
All belongings carried into the ShAC will be scanned during security screening. While guests may not bring laptop computers to Shanghai American Center programs, portable electronic devices, such as mobile phones, iPads and other tablets, and smartwatches are permitted,.
