When I first arrived in Beijing in 2012, it was for work, not music. I hadn’t played in a band for a while, I didn’t even have any drumsticks. But soon I discovered the city’s vibrant music scene and it wasn’t long until I played my first few covers at the old VA Bar’s open-mic session.
Fast-forward six years, and I’m performing regularly around Beijing’s venues with my two original bands (Peppercorns and Acid Accident), getting invited to play in other cities, going on tour, playing festivals, recording albums, and even releasing a music video. It’s more than I ever dreamed of.
But like every show, all good things must come to an end and I’m leaving China.
I arrived with nothing, I leave with a WeChat full of music friends and a heart full of the best memories I’ve had so far in my life as a musician. Beijing, I will miss you!
