About the Activity “High Flow”, artist Joshua Nathanson’s first solo exhibition in China will be presented in Yuz Museum from February 3rd, 2018. Five large-scaled paintings, two hand-painted murals, a video animation, and a towering 3D-designed sculpture represent a continuation and a twist in the artist’s practice. The exhibition is drawn from the artist’s residency in Shanghai last spring. Just like the Impressionists, Los Angeles-based artist Joshua Nathanson begins his work by sketching the city’s landscapes such as “international style” of shopping malls on Huaihai Road and public parks such as Gucun Park and beyond. Nathanson is quickly recognizable for his vivid color, layered composition, and a distinctively loose, sometimes childlike drawing style. On the opening day, Yuz Museum will invite artist Joshua Nathanson and chief editor of LEAP, Robin Peckham to give us an opening talk, and let the audience know more about two types of utopian spaces in Nathanson’s work, and the practice of combining traditional painting approaches with the newest technology.

About Yuz Project Space of Art Yuz Project Space of Art is a new independent program of Yuz Museum’s exhibitions, which opened to the public in September 2015. Yuz Project Space of Art invites artists to make site-specific works or projects, engaging boldly with the museum, its surroundings and its audience. Combining “a project + an exhibition”, the artist interacts actively with the space and aims to present the moment when contemporary art is happening. Yuz Project Space of Art is the place where innovation, invention, and a new movement happen in the pathway of an artist. It aims to provide another platform for Chinese and international artists to exhibit their artworks as well as more opportunities to communicate with each other. Yuz Project Space of Art invites the artist to get inspired with new ideas by engaging the artist with the museum space and try to make some break-through artworks that are different from its own line.
