Corpus-informed materials provide teachers opportunities to enhance upon their native-speaker intuition, bringing relevant and valid real world talk into the EFL classroom. In this workshop, participants will receive an introduction to the use of online corpora as a teaching tool for EFL learners using a data-driven learning (DDL) approach. This workshop will be divided into two parts. First, a brief introduction to online corpora and free corpus-building software will be provided. Information on how to search corpora online, as well as how to run simple searches, will be covered. Second, participants will engage in hands-on activities that have been developed for the EFL classroom. These activities will help participants introduce online corpora to students and train students on how to be “data miners” through noticing.
Note: This event is conducted in English and free of charge. You will be asked to show your ID card or passport for admission. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No cameras will be allowed and there is no place to check them, so please don't bring any cameras with you. Thank you for your cooperation.
