During the nineteenth and twentieth century, a remarkable event in human history took place: culture creativity and technological innovation were massively fused. Within a relatively short period of time, new technologies developed, as always from basic innovations: the high-speed rotary press in the mid-nineteenth century, the motion picture and sound recording at the end of that century, the union of these in talking pictures at the end of the 1920s, radio broadcasting in the 1920s and the first television broadcasting in the 1930s, and then a bunch of almost simultaneous innovations, at the mid-century. In turn they produced major new industries. What is new here was the mass production and mass consumption of arty, made possible y technologies that allowed it to be replicated and broadcast. That truly constituted a revolution in human experience, with momentous social and economic consequence.
