This program will be conducted in English and Chinese; the film will have Chinese and English subtitles.
In collaboration with the Love Queer Film Festival, the Beijing American Center proudly presents “Baby Steps”, followed by a discussion with the movie’s director and lead actor, Barney Cheng (鄭伯昱). In “Baby Steps,” Barney Cheng plays Danny, a Chinese-American man who wants to have a baby through surrogacy with his partner, Tate. Their journey becomes more complicated when Danny’s traditional mother finds out and ends up controlling every aspect of the process, all the way from Taipei. Drawing on Barney Cheng’s own experiences as a gay man, “Baby Steps” explores cross-cultural issues surrounding the gay family. This is the 9th annual Love Queer Film Festival, celebrating twenty years of queer filmmaking in China.
