Funk! The soul of funk music comes from the absolute “release” the tunes are able to conjure up! Open, unrestrained, uninhibited! An unfettered lust for life and passion to dance! Funk has its roots in the soul music created by African Americans, and after different influences and incarnations, the unique style of music known as funk finally formed and took on a life of its own! The funk (not fuck!) scene and gigs feature sweating bodies side-by-side dancing and throbbing all night long! As funk slowly found its way to Asia, the reserved and introverted bones of people could not resist the natural heat of funk music! After being away from the music scene for the past five years, on April 18, 2015, China’s first big funk band The Verse makes its long awaited return! The only true hole in Mainland China’s music scene – funk – has now been filled once again by The Verse! Do you still remember the music festivals of years gone past when The Verse would lead thousands of people to spontaneously support the freedom of dancing? Can you recall the musicians, signers, and dancers that composed China’s first unique big band? The Verse is led by captivating front man, famous funk musician, and the owner and manager of Xiamen’s only true live house (Real Live) – Huang Bo. Over the past five years Huang Bo has assembled an eclectic group of renowned funk musicians from Beijing, Shanghai, Mauritius, and beyond in reforming The Verse. It’s taken five years, but funk music is ready to make its long awaited return to Beijing! April 18, a spring evening in Beijing, Yugong Yishan, The Verse lead the masses in an evening on dancing on a night in which everybody loves funk!
