It is a well-known fact that China is one of the world’s fastest growing luxury-goods markets. It is no wonder then that leading luxury fashion brands like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Fendi and Cartier have in recent times collaborated with the National Museum of China in Beijing in an effort to showcase their products and forge relationships with leading Chinese artists.
Christian Dior is the latest luxury goods house to have adopted this strategy. Dior will launch its own luxury-art endeavor in Beijing when its traveling exhibition “Esprit Dior” opens at the National Museum of China in Beijing on November 13th this year. This luxury goods and art exhibition is believed to feature more than 100 dresses which have been produced by the house over the years. “Esprit Dior” which captures the essence of the French haute-couture house has been curated by Florence Muller, a renowned fashion historian and the former director-curator of the Union Française des arts du Costume.
The exhibition, which will run through January 2013, seeks to explore 10 themes via the mediums of Dior apparel, accessories, perfumes along with photography by well-known, French fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier; and works by Chinese contemporary artists Liu Jian Hua, Zhang Huan and Wen Fang.
“Esprit Dior” will also seek to highlight Christian Dior’s passion for gardens for it is a well- known fact that the couturier during his life time, planted and created wonderful gardens on the inhospitable terrain at his family home in Granville on the cliffs of Normandy in France.
Aside from Dior’s love for gardens, the exhibit’s other themes will highlight the house’s celebrity connections and its “emblematic codes” though high jewelry which is the brand’s forte. High jewelry will have its own pride of place among the many exhibits.
So if you have a passion for fashion and love Dior’s luxe products you should plan on taking in the exhibit if you happen to be in Beijing during its run. « 收起
