To those love me, and those I love, I dedicate the Northland October: A splendid season, with infinite sadness.
Born in South, I travelled a long way up to no man’s land.
I thought I was a fish, then discovered myself being a horse.
The cameras stay up all the time and all those images will blur for various unkown reasons.
The exhibition contains three sections: <October>, <Mirror/Encounter> ,<Up North>.
These three sections are gathered around the direction I long for-north, a direction of imaginative opposite bank.
1.<October> is dedicate to youthful feminism, a new chapter of harvest season.
2.<Mirror/Encounter> discuses different angles of self esteem and inter-human relationship.
3.<Up North> shows the world that is contractive to southland, an empty landscape that draws my imagination with its primitive power.
When we saw them, impulsive narration escaped from the flashlights.
Unseen is not necessarily untrue. I’ve come across some saying, it goes like this: If you can remember by heart, why bother to document it with photos.
Photographers may disagree, document is what they do, they use the photos to express, then to influence. But, what is the direction of photographs?
I took up the camera to experience and explore a world of unspeakable mysteries: dark desire, struggle, lonely and lost within my heart.
Special thanks to Yanfei Chen (Big Big Money), without her help this would never happen.
