The Making of Fantastic Mr. Fox的评论

提示: 有关键情节透露
It's well-designed (designed by Pentagram) high-quality print book. Of course the director wouldn't let those little things to contaminate his reputation of being a visual control-freak auteur.
It collected many detail works by the fantastic art department, all those details in my opinion really made the film. From tiny bicycles to little pencil sharpeners, the town square partly inspired by the heritage site Bath, supermarket shelves full of food (is it based on the Tesco just at the corner of Three Mill Studios where we got our value range lunch everyday?), the paintings on the wall, the paintings by Mrs Fox, everything has been made but only in a very small 'oh-so-cute' scale. Lots of drawing are done by concept designer Turlo, I have to get him signed the book.
There are interviews of the director, he mentioned his hip influences, mainly French, such as Cocteau's 'La Belle et La Bete' - I am sure most of my colleagues in the vfx company now would laugh at the primitive method used, but to certain people it's full of charm, and for me, it's a change of perspective, the perspective which I hope I will never loose.
I wouldn't say the book offers much technical information about how to make the film, but the visual style references are plenty, including the chapter of the comic White Cape the little fox Ash was reading in the film. For me it serves as a perfect souvenir of a good year's work. And does our department get mentioned? Of course not, but I am getting used to it now.
