Reading <The Da Vinci Code> has been a pleasure to me as expected. I managed to recollect a sort of feeling lost for a very long time, the spellbound Louis Cha's masterpiece once imposed on me.

The author Dan Brown is a scholar type novelist with strong intellectual background. I am referring to his wife and parents. The whole big family was behind him for this project and obviously he had been to lots of places in this novel doing research first-hand. No wonder he was able to elaborate with vivid details, setting most of the scenes striding merely overnight.

His attention to details is the key to create a haunting atmosphere of suspense. The mixture of historical and fictional elements is congruent well to lure readers to be absorbing the plots as if they were listening to a seldom accessible story, mysterious, true but long, widely lost or told in a very different way.

The hero Robert Langdon is a typical good man, though lack of character. Without considering his age, Tom Hanks is undoubtedly the most ideal actor to play Langdon. He might even prove to be well fit for acting Guo Jing, the Eagle Shooting Hero, as long as he overcomes the ethnic and cultural barriers one day Hollywood wants to shoot that one.

Sophie Neveu's identity as a princess was revealed too early, which gave enough hints of the ultimate secret hidden in the end. She was very smart and resolute, but more importantly she was ROYAL not to say loyal as well, as if a combination of Huang Rong and Zhao Min depicted by Cha.

The story flows through very smoothly with a few lines of lesser importance chipping in from time to time. The way Robert and Sophie push things forward was structured in a similar way to that of a video game: working out the key to the next pass time and time again. The flaws are that it's linear and most of the answers will have to be based on specific knowledge of history, religion and symbology. All that makes it not as fun and sense of achievement winning as Cha's works could bring you.

That's why I would say this book resembles Louis Cha's works in many respects though another renowned author specialize in sword and chivalry, Xiong Yaohua, is a better niche-market player in the area of creating suspense. Most importantly, it is not a research paper but it may trig readers' interest of making further research on their own, which I perceive as a virtue. So don't be bothered by historical inaccuracies it contains and even profanity it provokes as someone may claim. Stay in your comfort zone and read and that's the way supposed to be with this book. Just as simple as that.
