现实经常令人不满，我们脑子里存着一堆愿望。
但当一切完全按照愿望进行时，我们就会感到快乐吗？
考罗琳（Coraline）的现实生活并非十分令人满意。大多数情况下，她都在被人忽视。被忙于工作的父母忽视，被邻居们忽视，他们甚至记不住她真正的名字是考罗琳（Coraline）。她的意愿并不会遭到反对，而是会被大人直接“屏蔽”掉。而她又是那么一个安静、独立的孩子，不会粘着大人哭闹，她只是安安静静地自己找些有趣的事做，自己去“探查”或看看电视和书。实在无聊时对父母说两句，也被父母迅速有效地打发了。(这和电影可能有所不同。电影里的考罗琳更活泼可爱，而书中的考罗琳更勇敢、独立，甚至有点冷漠。)
但是，她心里肯定也藏着愿望。也许，她希望父母可以赔她玩，希望有趣又不会忽视她的邻居，希望爸爸不要按照菜谱做菜，希望能有色彩鲜艳的衣服。也许，她希望有一个怪异、神奇的世界，每天都可以去探查、历险。
另一个妈妈给她提供了这一切。可她提供的“爱”令人胆寒。
考罗琳为拯救所有人和另一个妈妈玩起了找东西的游戏。当她快要发现第三个孩子的灵魂时，另一个妈妈通过“另一个楼上的疯老头”试图劝说考罗琳放弃寻找，留下来。
于是有了一下这段对话：
"Nothing's changed, little girl," he said, his voice sounding like the noise dry leaves make as they rustle across a pavement. "And what if you do everything you swore you would? What then? Nothing's changed. You'll go home. You'll be bored. You'll be ignored. No one will listen to you, not really listen to you. You're too clever and too quiet for them to understand. They don't even get your name right.
"Stay here with us," said the voice from the figure at the end of the room. "We will listen to you and play with you and laugh with you. Your other mother will build whole worlds for you to explore, and tear them down every night when you are done. Every day will be better and brighter than the one that went before. Remember the toybox? How much better would a world be built just like that, and all for you?"
"And will there be grey, wet days where I just don't know what to do and there's nothing to read or to watch and nowhere to go and the day drags on forever?" asked Coraline.
From the shadows, the man said, "Never."
"And will there be awful meals, with food made from recipes, with garlic and tarragon and broad beans in?" asked Coraline.
"Every meal will be a thing of joy," whispered the voice from under the old man's hat. "Nothing will pass your lips that does not entirely delight you."
"And could I have Day-glo green gloves to wear, and yellow Wellington boots in the shape of frogs?" asked Coraline.
"Frogs, ducks, rhinos, octopuses—whatever you desire. The world will be built new for you every morning. If you stay here, you can have whatever you want."
Coraline sighed. "You really don't understand, do you?" she said. "I don't want whatever I want. Nobody does. Not really. What kind of fun would it be if I just got everything I ever wanted? Just like that, and it didn't mean anything. What then?"
考罗琳知道另一个妈妈说的是事实，如果她回到自己的世界，没有什么会改变，她仍然会被忽视，没有人会在乎她说什么。但是，如果她留在另一个妈妈的世界，这里将会是一个完全为她建造的世界，有关心她的父母、邻居，有所有她想要的玩具、衣服。至少在一段时间内会是这样。
考罗琳拒绝了，她的理由不是害怕纽扣眼睛，而是“我不愿意想要什么就有什么。那样就没有乐趣了。”
她真的是个聪慧的女孩，即使在面对诱惑时仍能认清自己的愿望，简直与年龄不相乘。
我们能够看清吗？
想必大多数人都会对生活有这样那样的不满，也有一堆希望实现的愿望。
但是，你真的希望它们都实现吗？你真的希望你的生活会按照你的愿望进行吗？那样你真的会感到幸福快乐吗？
也许，只有在黑暗中才能注意到光明，如果没有生活中的不足和不快我也不能体验到快乐和幸福。也许，一切按照愿望进行只会让人感到空虚无力。
当然，也许不是这样。

顺便说一句，在“Sandman”里这样的愿望估计是归Desire管的，大多数情况下同Desire瓜葛上的人不会有啥好结果。
