First of all, this play sucks. It makes me bored, the plot is dull, thanks god it has only 86 pages, or else I would tear up the book then kill myself. Even though I hate it so much, I still need to read this shit because it’s my summer reading, and I even need to write the god damn journal! I felt so guilty to praise the book in my journal, so I got to spit some words here. The most intolerable person in the play must be Eddie Carbone, he’s totally a control freak! Anyone with a discerning eye can easily see that he’s in love with his niece, but this stubborn guy always argue that he’s doing everything for his niece’s good. At first I thought he was just so care about Catherine as a parent, and as he said, keep her away from any dangerous situations because she’s too young to handle them. But then I realize…man! He loves her, like a man to a woman, not a daughter! He tried to get rid of Rodolpho because he’s jealous! Before I read this book my friend told me the play is about gay, now I see that it’s all about incest. After reading I still don’t get where the gay part is, so I google the reviews, and guess what I found? Let me quote what Eddie said—“The guy ain’t right…He has blond hair…He looks like a chorus girl…He cooks if ya close the paper real fast, you could blow him over!” This litany Of sniping remarks that Eddie makes about Rodolpho is a virtual catalog of gay stereotypes. Maybe you will think that, this is so ridiculous, I don’t even see any 2 guys slobbering in the play, but you may understand it was in 1950’s, the audience would be horrified if they see 2 men kissing each other. One more proof to show it’s not a right play for modern open-minded people to read, it will drive you nuts!
Forget those shit(my opinion) I say before, it’s still a good play to learn history in 1940’s and 1950’s—how people responded to homosexual, lives of illegal immigrants, betrayal between families, the way poor people lived… Damn! I am being contradictory again. I suppose to criticize this play… Anyways, I am not gonna to talk about other characters, they are fine, I can't remember some of their names actually. For those people like me, if you don’t wanna waste your time or being pissed off, I suggest you not to read this book. And to be generous, I will mark 3 stars.
