Cambridge Spies (2003)(TV) / 剑桥风云的评论

提示: 有关键情节透露
Two actors played Guy Burgess brilliantly:
Rupert Everet (Another Country)
http://www.douban.co m/subject/1297147/
The movie ends with a lonely and much older Guy in a cold USSR apartment far away from home, missing his old friends and long-gone school days terribly.
Tom Hollander (Cambridge Spies)
http://www.douban.co m/subject/1441871/
Guy's last scene was on deck with Donald Maclean, watching the land of England fading into the horizon, on their way to USSR and never to see their country again.

agree. only half way through and tom hollander is the most impressive of the four.his love for julian bell is incredibly touching...beginning to wonder if tom is a homosexual in real life or not

I agree with you that's a very touching, the story itself and Tom's performance. The scene at the Spanish hotel where Guy asking Kim to bury the Bell's photo for him, made me tearful and heartache, and I am not so easily moved by movies, :)Before this series, I just liked Tom in general, from Possession, Wives and Daughters, Gosford Park, 2005 P&P, and of course Pirates of the Caribbean. I thought he was a paler version of Osborne than I imagined from the book at the beginning - let's be honest, he is not the average shiny tall star - but one soon overlooks that little thing. After watching this series, ever since his first appearance in the bar at the beginning of the series, I was impressed, really impressed and like him a lot more. The script might well be much changed from the (known public) historical facts, nevertheless his Guy was very well done. All four leads were well performed of course, but I have to say Samuel West and Tom Hollander stood out ever more noticeably, even though Toby's Kim was more dominant a role for this series. Both of them show the inner conflict, the controlled passion, so well and so subtly, one cannot help feeling with them. And the friendship and deep understanding between the two characters, also very moving. The final scene between the two, while Anthony shopping coat for Guy, and later gave his Middlemarch to Guy, there are handful movies that ever touch my heart as much. Friendship is big theme in this series. How back in the bar they comforted each by a look or a touch, or how Kim finally broke down with tears after knowing both Guy and Maclean on their way to USSR, those were equally moving.
One thing amused me a little was watching the real-life couple Toby and Anne-Louise played lovers in this one, hinted love affair though. I guess it comes easy with those loving glances and such, :)
I kept thinking of Rupert while watching this one. Watched "Another Country" many years ago, don't remember much in detail but some impression is as strong as yesterday. Both were brilliantly done, maybe I will re-watch it if I can find the time.

yes i really liked him in Possession! The character (landlord) is completely different in the book! wonder how the screenwriters thought of creating this lovely lawyer! :Di don't remember him in Gosford Park though...i guess it's because it's too dazzling, i was busy watching other people..lol...good film, i must watch it again some time...
