People said that Shels was psycho. He was sometimes grumpy, sometimes sad. One day, he killed his wife. The blood was everywhere. He, wiping the floor with old newspapers in a panic, tried to clean it. He shut the door and windows and ran to ‘my’ house. I saw him sweating all over so I gave him a glass of hot water to calm him down. He began to tell ‘me’ stories about this town. Because the stories were told disorderly and in a weird speed, they seemed to be even more absurd for ‘me’.
A ballad:
‘I’ was a teacher in the town. I always liked to tell stories to my students in class. This song was the one I liked to sing to my friends. Some of the people in stories were my friends, and some were my family. Sometimes I couldn’t understand why these absurd stories always happened to people around me.
Renaxy:
This was a weird day. I took my students to the wild. We came to a beautiful cave. There were a lot of green grass and magnificent wild flowers near the entrance. But I entered the cave. In the light of the torch, I saw ‘Renaxy’ written inside the cave wobbly. I didn’t know what it stood for, so I wrote it down on my notebook. Yet I still remembered the fear those letters brought me at that moment. I was suppressed by that feeling and could hardly escape.

Jordi was the daughter of Shels’s. Everytime Shels talked about her, he cried, terribly. Ever since her father killed her mother, Jordi left him. It was said that she went to another town and married to a poor labourer. Jordi had a beautiful body and charming eyes. But that poor labourer could never satisfy her infinite desires. For a long time, the bother of her husband always called her to make love in the midnight. She chirped and made the heavy night of the town even grayer. But Jordi hurt badly deep inside, she wanted to run. One day one said she ran into the mountains, but her husband found her, beat her and fucked her.
Lorida:
Hearing stories about Shels’s daughter, I recalled my daughter Lorida. I married her mother in a wheat field. I always remembered the day she was born, her skin and her hair. But she left us anyway and eloped away with a man with black skin. So-called eternal love was no more than absurd legends, I thought. I still missed my daughter. In dreams, I always feared, because her voice was always there. I didn’t know if she was dead, but I had this strange feeling that she was.
Maria:
Maria was a beautiful woman in my town. Because frustrations brought by love, she didn’t believe in man. She never lacked men, but rumours had it that those men would die in suffocation in climax. Because she lived in the outskirts, everything was rumoured. She was as beautiful as she was frightening. Shels said he went to bed with her. The smell of blood was always in her house.
Shels:
Shels was my friend. We always liked to talk to each other. He always told me he could fly. I didn’t believe it, and I never saw he do it. He left finally; no one knows where he had gone. He didn’t even know how his wife died.
Karffen:
Karffen was my little brother. His son was an idiot but he loved him very much. The early death of his wife made him an alcoholic. Some strange and nameless sex made him losing himself too. He never let us to say anything about his child. I knew that he was very proud. One old peasant one day told his son he was an idiot sarcastically. The child didn’t understand, so he laughed. In that night my brother killed that peasant. Then my brother was taken and trialed in the city before long. I didn’t go to that trail, and I never wanted to hear a word about him.
The End:
I thought I would be the first one to die, but I lived until the end. I thought perhaps it was the weird definition that weird sign gave me. However absurd those things were in town, I could still live on in this pressing life. I thought maybe that was absurd too. I would like to write my name on my gravestone, not the name I had, but: ‘Eltan Renaxy’.
