其中的音乐(尤其是the underground,Kate's theme and Milly's theme),威尼斯的美景以及Milly,Kate and Merton 的一些台词,真是叫人念念不忘.
最喜欢的有两处,一是Milly得知真相后病情恶化,Merton去探她,同她的那段对话(这段是编剧的创意,因为在James原著中此处是著名的"故意留白").
Milly用一句无奈的"I love u,both of u!"打断Merton的解释,Merton 无言以对,口中只喃喃重复:"I'm so sorry..."此时Milly's theme用钢琴轻缓奏出.
二是Milly去世后,Kate and Merton在Merton的伦敦寓所中的那段.
Kate烧了信,Merton抱着她说:"I love u,Kate..."Kate哭着回应:"I love u,too..."
M:She wanted us to be together...
K:We will be.
M:I want to marry you Kate,without her money.
K:Is that ur condition?
M:Yes.
K:Am I allowed one,too?
M:Of course u r.
K:Give me ur word of honor,yr word of honor,that u'll not be in love,with her memory!
Merton无言,Kate起身,离开.Merton眼前,浮现出Milly的倩影,又响起Milly's theme--一开始还是略显单薄的钢琴,随后大片弦乐接上,画面转到片尾--
Merton提着箱子走下贡多拉,水鸟带几分凄烈的鸣声与Milly温柔的画外音搭调又不衬:
Milly:I believe in u,I just do.I have a good feeling.I think everything is going to happen for u,Merton,sooner than u think.With certain people I know.
人生无常,爱亦无常,世间万物本是无常.
我们究竟应该怎么活?才可以既对得起自己,又对得起别人?
又或许,这根本就是一种不可能?
(也四很久以前写的了.过分喜欢的电影,反倒写不出什么...)

--摘自给朋友的信我其实很喜欢millie。当然俗世中有你作榜样，然而在所有小说人物里，米小姐俨然是我的精神偶像。富足、随性却并没有被钱财 spoil坏掉，很难完全定义其善恶(typical jamesian sophistication!)然因孤独与疾病倒还真正怀有一份十足的大度与悲悯。
henry james往往爱用描述性的笔触去写人物，所以edith warton骂他书中人太干瘪瘪没有激情；或许多少有点，但看着他写她，还是叫人好动容：“..but it was, all the same, the truth of truths that the girl couldn't get away from her wealth..she couldn't dress it away, nor walk it away, nor read it away, nor think it away; she could neither smile it away in any dreamy absence nor blow it away in any softened sigh. she couldn't have lost it if she had tried-that was what it was to be really rich. it had to be THE thing you were.” 这位姑娘是pure gold, both literally and figuratively, and she is above it all. james在书中也写出了她无数的心绪微变、波澜起伏（很多时候是间接体现，以edith的女性角度看过去自然会觉得不爽。。-- 但这也正是某人最擅长的psychological nuance and ambiguity嘛。。功力深厚啊）：米小姐并非没有纠结，并非没有焦虑与猜忌，然而在爱的时候，她是绝对坦率、真诚而没有心机的，面对merton与 kate都是如此。闪光的不都是金子，真金却必定放光芒。
kate 也是我的favorite person，但我完全能够理解merton为何会被富家宝贝吸引并在她离世之后依然对其念念不忘--she was just so "big", so "great", that she "exceeded, escaped, measure"--无论是死是活，millie theale的品格和精神气场实在太太overwhelming，谁又能抵御住呢。
事到如今就，依然可以背出下面这段对话阿。。
Merton: I don’t believe in any of the things I write about. I fake passion. I fake conviction.
Milly: I believe in you.
Merton: Why?
Milly: I just do. I have a good feeling. [She is smiling.]
Merton: A good feeling?
Milly: [sniffs, laughs] Yes. I think everything’s gonna happen for you, Merton. Sooner than you think.
Merton: How do you know?
Milly: Ther’er certain people I know. [She begins to cough and splutter.]
Merton: Are you all right?
Milly: I was trying to impress you. I’m going to make a fool of myself tonight. I know it.
