The Wind That Shakes The Barley / 风吹麦浪的评论
周日在家看本年金棕榈大奖影片《风吹稻浪》（The wind that shakes the barley）。这电影不一般——事关爱尔兰独立史，而由英国人拍出。电影容得以后再说。单说这片名的翻译，四字熟语切合汉语的审美，但barley当做“大麦”讲，所以“稻浪”两字根本无从谈起。此外，“The wind that shakes the barley”全句的节奏也不是那么急促，如果译作“吹动大麦的风”可能更好一些。此处，“大麦”可能象征爱尔兰，“风”则指在那片绿色土地挣扎、倾轧、杀伐的爱尔兰人、英格兰人。当然若作此译，不够上口，也不够好卖。
片名好像出自一首爱尔兰民歌，电影里也有唱，唯不完整。倒让我想起本朝太祖的一首七律来：
“别梦依稀咒逝川，故园三十二年前。红旗卷起农奴戟，黑手高悬霸主鞭。为有牺牲多壮志，敢教日月换新天。喜看稻菽千重浪，遍地英雄下夕烟。”（《到韶山》，一九五九年六月）
中午扫了美剧《日落大道60演播室》中的一集，正讲到请Sting来做节目嘉宾，Sting唱的歌中也有“barley”一词，乃发生兴趣，google了一番。
这歌原来是“Fields of gold”（《金色田野》）。词曰：

对这首歌，Sting夫妇各有解说。太太Trudie Styler 1996年在接受访问时说：“我们在乡下有一处很好的地方....我们一起走过田野。那‘金色的田野’正是我们的金色田野。我们两个人呆着，感到安适和快乐（peace and happiness），深深的快乐。”
Sting也说：“金色田野确实是关于‘欢愉’的一首歌。”不过他接着说：“在那一刻确实感到欢愉，不过也知道这欢愉不可能持久，所以令人悲伤。歌曲就是以对这欢愉的回忆结束的。”
他还说：“对我来说，这首歌还代表了肉体之爱（physical love）...人们在大麦田里做爱。”
