American Idiot的评论

It's taking me forever to review this album, because it is a daunting task. I feel like my words might fail to do it justice.
Awesome doesn't even begin to describe this brilliant masterpiece. Every track on the CD is amazing, and there are no fillers whatsoever. Let me put it this way--"American Idiot", the title song and the first single of the album, is probably the weakest link, yet it's still exceedingly good. Go figure.
Again, every song is amazing, but I do have some favorites.
"Jesus of Suburbia" and "Homecoming" are two rock operas each containing five separate songs. Both are almost 10 minutes long, and both make 10 minutes seem like 10 seconds.
"Holiday" has such a strong message. I was moved to tears when I first heard it. Seriously. It made me cry.
"Boulevard of Broken Dreams" is pop perfection. Perfect melody, perfect lyrics, perfect feel. I usually don't care for songs that get way overplayed on radio, but this one is a major exception.
"Give Me Novacaine" is extremely soothing. It was featured in an ER episode last season when two lead characters were making love. Need I say more?
"Letterbomb" is, well, full of swear words like the title suggests. I consider profanities a big turn-off, but I've got to hand it to Green Day. They make "bastards" and "fucking" sound nice. No kidding.
"Wake Me Up When September Ends" is the 11th track of the CD. September. 11th. Coincidence? I don't think so. And the music video perfectly illustrates the point. I dare you to watch it and not feel a thing!
"Whatsername" is so incredibly catchy. It's one of those songs that get stuck in your head the first time you hear it. And as long as you have been in a relationship, you will definitely relate to the lyrics.
Worth special mention is Green Day's brave concept. If you listen to the songs carefully, you can find a lot of "easter eggs". All of the tracks are connected to each other via something, be it a fictional character, a cultural reference, or a certain phrase. When you connect all the dots, you will definitely appreciate Green Day's effort and go, "SMART!!!" :)
Bottom line is, this is THE best album I've heard in a long, long time. Don't shy away from it if you are not into "rock" or "punk". Trust me, I'm not a big fan of punk rock. This album transcends that. If you love music, you should not miss it.
And if that still doesn't convince you, I've compiled all the music videos thus far (namely the first four singles) for your viewing pleasure. Watch them. Enough said.

However, the seeking to unique and excellent music was a long and arduous journey. With the growth of Green Day, criticism was received. Green Day was blamed of mixing pop and punk together or of losing the original violent style. As for me, such kind of comment was ridiculous because the most significant difference between punk and pop is not the hysteric of punk or the commercialization of pop, it is the way in which the music has been expressed distinguishes those music beanches.2008-10-06 15:11:22 vigor
