Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul.
fire of my loins
loins指的是Someone's loins are the front part of their body between their waist and legs, especially their sexual parts.
I leaf again and again through these miserable memories, and keep asking myself, was it then,in the glitter of that remote summer, that the rift in my life began; or was my excessive desire for that child only the first evidence of an inherent singularity? When I try to analyze my own cravings, motives, actions and so forth, I surrender to a sort of retrospective imagination which feeds the analytic faculty with boundless alternatives and which causes each visualized route to fork and re-fork without end in the maddeningly complex prospect of my past. I am convinced, however, that in a certain magic and fateful way Lolita began with Annabel .
I leaf again and again through these miserable memories
and keep asking myself, was it then,in the glitter of that remote summer, that the rift in my life began
or was my excessive desire for that child only the first evidence of an inherent singularity?
在这是指(old-fashioned) the quality of something that makes it unusual or strange,(旧式)让东西变奇怪的特质(出自朗文)。
When I try to analyze my own cravings, motives, actions and so forth
analyze是分析
craving是渴望
motive是动机
action是行为
so forth=so on
I surrender to a sort of retrospective imagination which feeds the analytic faculty with boundless alternatives and which causes each visualized route to fork and re-fork without end in the maddeningly complex prospect of my past
If you visualize something, you imagine what it is like by forming a mental picture of it.
prospect牛津高阶的释义是picture in the mind or imagination, esp of a future event 意境; 想像; (尤指)前景, 展望
I surrender to a sort of retrospective imagination in the maddeningly complex prospect of my past
I surrender to a sort of retrospective imagination(断句) which feeds the analytic faculty with boundless alternatives(断句) and which causes each visualized route to fork and re-fork without end (断句) in the maddeningly complex prospect of my past
I am convinced, however, that in a certain magic and fateful way Lolita began with Annabel

I also know that the shock of Annabel 's death consolidated the frustration of that nightmare summer, made of it a permanent obstacle to any further romance throughout the cold years of my youth. The spiritual and the physical had been blended in us with a perfection that must remain incomprehensible to the matter-of-fact, crude, standard-brained youngsters of today. Long after her death I felt her thoughts floating through mine. Long before we met we had had the same dreams. We compared notes. We found strange affinities. The same June of the same year (1919) a stray canary had fluttered into her house and mine, in two widely separated countries. Oh, Lolita, had you loved me thus.
I also know that the shock of Annabel 's death consolidated the frustration of that nightmare summer
made of it a permanent obstacle to any further romance throughout the cold years of my youth
The spiritual and the physical had been blended in us with a perfection that must remain incomprehensible to the matter-of-fact, crude, standard-brained youngsters of today
Long after her death I felt her thoughts floating through mine. Long before we met we had had the same dreams
这long after和long before的对照之处就是中译犯难的地方...
We compared notes. We found strange affinities.
The same June of the same year (1919) a stray canary had fluttered into her house and mine, in two widely separated countries
If something light such as a small bird or a piece of paper flutters somewhere, it moves through the air with small quick movements.
Oh, Lolita, had you loved me thus
Oh和Lolita不说了,后面这个句子其实是个虚拟语气+省略+倒装,等于if you had loved me thus,纳博科夫果然跟英语有个约会...
I have reserved for the conclusion of my “ Annabel” phase the account of our unsuccessful first tryst. One night, she managed to deceive the vicious vigilance of her family. In a nervous and slender-leaved mimosa grove at the back of their villa we found a perch on the ruins of a low stone wall. Through the darkness and the tender trees we could see the arabesques of lighted windows which, touched up by the colored inks of sensitive memory, appear to me now like playing cards——presumably because a bridge game was keeping the enemy busy. She trembled and twitched as I kissed the corner of her parted lips and the hot lobe of her ear. A cluster of stars palely glowed above us, between the silhouettes of long thin leaves; that vibrant sky seemed as naked as she was under her light frock. I saw her face in the sky, strangely distinct, as if it emitted a faint radiance of its own. Her legs, her lovely live legs, were not too close together, and when my hand located what it sought, a dreamy and eerie expression, half-pleasure, half-pain, came over those childish features. She sat a little higher than I, and whenever in her solitary ecstasy she was led to kiss me, her head would bend with a sleepy, soft, drooping movement that was almost woeful, and her bare knees caught and compressed my wrist, and slackened again; and her quivering mouth, distorted by the acridity of some mysterious potion, with a sibilant intake of breath came near to my face. She would try to relieve the pain of love by first roughly rubbing her dry lips against mine; then my darling would draw away with a nervous toss of her hair, and then again come darkly near and let me feed on her open mouth, while with a generosity that was ready to offer her everything, my heart, my throat, my entrails, I have her to hold in her awkward fist the scepter of my passion.
I have reserved for the conclusion of my “ Annabel” phase the account of our unsuccessful first tryst
那个叫phase shift;记得YouTD(好吧,纯粹是充数,因为这个玩意太生僻了...)里的相位手套吗,就是phase glove...however(放在这算各应主万吗?),在这是指阶段的意思
One night, she managed to deceive the vicious vigilance of her family
In a nervous and slender-leaved mimosa grove at the back of their villa we found a perch on the ruins of a low stone wall
perch有栖木的意思,剑桥高级有个释义是a seat or other place high up, often giving a good view of something below,总之这里就当个坐的地方讲
Through the darkness and the tender trees we could see the arabesques of lighted windows which, touched up by the colored inks of sensitive memory, appear to me now like playing cards——presumably because a bridge game was keeping the enemy busy
Through the darkness and the tender trees we could see the arabesques of lighted windows appear to me now like playing cards——presumably because a bridge game was keeping the enemy busy
然后我们在加上从句:which touched up by the colored inks of sensitive memory
She trembled and twitched as I kissed the corner of her parted lips and the hot lobe of her ear
A cluster of stars palely glowed above us, between the silhouettes of long thin leaves; that vibrant sky seemed as naked as she was under her light frock. I saw her face in the sky, strangely distinct, as if it emitted a faint radiance of its own
Radiance...
字面:一簇星星在我们上方微弱的发光,(这簇星星)在细长叶子的剪影中间(其实就是透过叶子缝看星星);
Vibrant colours are very bright and clear。牛津高阶双解: (esp of colours) bright and striking。 Color Relatively high on the scale of brightness。
Her legs, her lovely live legs, were not too close together, and when my hand located what it sought, a dreamy and eerie expression, half-pleasure, half-pain, came over those childish features
She sat a little higher than I, and whenever in her solitary ecstasy she was led to kiss me
好吧,初中学的确实是he is taller than me,不过我大概搜了下看了看,than过去当连词使,后面实际是he is taller than I (am),than要是当介词的话就是than me了...
ecstasy是狂喜,嗯,a feeling of very great happiness
her head would bend with a sleepy, soft, drooping movement that was almost woeful
and her bare knees caught and compressed my wrist, and slackened again; and her quivering mouth, distorted by the acridity of some mysterious potion, with a sibilant intake of breath came near to my face
She would try to relieve the pain of love by first roughly rubbing her dry lips against mine; then my darling would draw away with a nervous toss of her hair
and then again come darkly near and let me feed on her open mouth, while with a generosity that was ready to offer her everything——my heart, my throat, my entrails——I have her to hold in her awkward fist the scepter of my passion
darkly在这朗文有个释义是:in a sad, angry, or threatening way。

I recall the scent of some kind of toilet powder——I believe she stole it from her mother‟s Spanish maid——a sweetish, lowly, musky perfume. It mingled with her own biscuity odor, and my senses were suddenly filled to the brim; a sudden commotion in a nearby bush prevented them from overflowing——and as we drew away from each other, and with aching veins attended to what was probably a prowling cat, there came from the house her mother ‟s voice calling her, with a rising frantic note——and Dr. Cooper ponderously limped out into the garden. But that mimosa grove——the haze of stars, the tingle, the flame, the honey-dew, and the ache remained with me, and that little girl with her seaside limbs and ardent tongue haunted me ever since——until at last, twenty-four years later, I broke her spell by incarnating her in another.
I recall the scent of some kind of toilet powder——I believe she stole it from her mother‟s Spanish maid——a sweetish, lowly, musky perfume
recall回想
toilet在这不是马桶的意思...toilet powder韦氏的释义是a fine powder usually with soothing or antiseptic ingredients for sprinkling or rubbing (as after bathing) over the skin,也就是爽身粉...
Cooper ponderously limped out into the garden
mingle混合
biscuity饼干的
odor气味
brim边缘
commotion骚动
bush灌木丛
prevent防止
overflow溢出
vein有静脉的意思,记得第二章说小哼·哼他爹with a dash of the Danube in his veins吗...
But that mimosa grove——the haze of stars, the tingle, the flame, the honey-dew, and the ache remained with me, and that little girl with her seaside limbs and ardent tongue haunted me ever since——until at last, twenty-four years later, I broke her spell by incarnating her in another.

I saw her face in the sky, strangely distinct, as if it emitted a faint radiance of its own
Radiance...
字面:一簇星星在我们上方微弱的发光,(这簇星星)在细长叶子的剪影中间(其实就是透过叶子缝看星星);

But that mimosa grove——the haze of stars, the tingle, the flame, the honey-dew, and the ache remained with me, and that little girl with her seaside limbs and ardent tongue haunted me ever since——until at last, twenty-four years later, I broke her spell by incarnating her in another.
