It is your project, it is your research. The two work together either one may be the primary motivating factor at a particular time. Both will shape the other, without the other they will not function.
 
Your ideas will always be too grand. Get over it and move on.
You will want to produce something truly new. Get over it and move on.
 
Slow methodical steps, shifts, disruptions outweigh the big gestures.
