Oversea-educated, English-speaking, and you spend a long time residing in a western country. Upon returning China, however, you find it hard to come to grapples with the modern China: the overly popular Sichuan cuisine is too greasy; you develop hay fever for the first time because of the polution; when you are dragged to a KTV you don't know any of the songs; everywhere you look, people are tired, bitter and impatient - but most important of all, you find it virtually impossible to conduct an intelligent discussion with the typical Chinese. They either laugh at and dismiss your 'Western ideals' or tell you bluntly that you don't know how China works.
