The Deafaids是由Peter Scherr在香港组建的器乐乐队。他们以擅长的四重奏形式，营造美好的器乐音乐氛围。Peter Scherr的理念是突破乐器单一演奏的功能，并更新从上世纪60年代以来爵士乐器跨界进入流行音乐的概念。诸如Green Onions和Mercy Mercy Mercy等当时的曲目都是出自爵士乐队，却被普及流行开来，拥有大量的听众。

乐队十分认同选曲的重要性。除了Peter Scherr的原创章节以外，他们还从古典音乐与流行乐中汲取创作灵感，同时驾驭爵士、流行、摇滚等多种风格。

Peter Scherr是在香港生活将近20年的美国低音大提琴手／作曲家。或许再没有音乐家比彼德具有更广阔的背景和音乐开放性。他曾在美国和香港的交响乐团任职多年。过去十年，他曾与众多顶尖的创意音乐家同台演出，而这都源于他丰富多彩的音乐风格、富有凝聚力的节奏以及让人难以琢磨的独奏形式，这些音乐家包括他的兄弟Tony Scherr、Jim Black、Kenny Wollesson、Anton Fier、Jenny Schienman、Bruce Huron、John Carlson、Matt McMahon和Simon Barker等等。彼德的演奏融合了大量技术，但您从他的音乐中感受到的却是令人惊叹的合奏效果，蕴含着巨大的创新力。


The Deafaids

The Deafaids are Peter Scherr's Hong Kong-based instrumental music band. They are a quartet that specializes in feel-good instrumental music. Scherr's idea is to update the instrumental single, or crossover concept from the 60's, where you had jazz crossover instrumentals into the pop realm. Songs like Green Onions and Mercy Mercy Mercy, though they were played by jazz bands, turned out to have mass appeal.

So the choice of songs is very important. Scherr has written original material for this group, as well as choosing songs from a wide variety of classic and contemporary songwriters, some in the jazz category, and some from the pop and rock worlds.

And the musicians are very important too. Scherr has carefully chosen his favorite players from the Hong Kong scene, which has many notable performers. These musicians are capable of playing instrumental songs with a kind of pop aesthetic. Not just athletic solos of extended jazz narrative, but concise statements that serve the songs and delight audiences.


About Peter Scherr：

Peter Scherr is an American double bassist/composer who has been living in Hong Kong for close to 20 years. There are probably very few musicians with a broader background and musical openness than Peter. For many years he held positions with symphony orchestras both in the U.S. and Hong Kong. Over the last decade his rich sound, cohesive pulse, and unpredictable solos have been the core for groups with leading creative musicians such as his brother Tony Scherr, Jim Black, Kenny Wollesson, Anton Fier, Jenny Schienman, Bruce Huron, John Carlson, Matt McMahon, and Simon Barker. Peter is one of those musicians who has an abundance of technique but what you hear in his music is his formidable sense of ensemble playing and enormous creativity.
