我们一直说“福传本地化”,但当我第一次听到这种音乐风格的晚祷,除了惊讶外,还有就是一种断代的莫名无奈。

    很陌生,是因为礼仪之争后我们与中国的传统断代了,如今我们只听俄我略圣咏,而丢弃了原本属于我们的……

    问题是中国人现在接受外来文化不像先人那么困难了,由于全球趋于一体化,所以也不必强求所谓的"本土化",说实在,现在中国人的文化是受全球性的文化影响的,反而和先人的文化差距更大.

    但是适当融入自己的文化也是很好的,只要不是为了"本土化"而去强求,这样反而会弄出个"人工文化"出来.

    三百年的断代,可不被雷吗?

    不过,还好,听了几遍这三首颂祷,渐渐更多的是一种来自母体的亲切感,毕竟这样的雅韵华章并没有消失,它们在道观寺庙中延续下来,继续回荡在中国人的耳边。

    耶稣会的会士们当年福传本地化的孜孜探寻、实践且架设了很好的文化沟通桥梁工作值得我们钦佩。

    任何民族的文化都应以平等的尊重,可惜当年罗马教廷不懂,才使得现在的中梵建交、理解困难重重。

    想不到第一首歌还是在云南丽江采风编曲的,倒是知道那里的纳西鼓乐保留着唐宋古谱。

    第四首是利玛窦为万历皇帝所作的击弦古钢琴编曲《西琴八曲》其中之二《牧童游山》,《西》也是最早的中文天主教圣歌。《西琴曲意》有8个标题:吾愿在上、牧童游山、善汁寿修、德之勇巧、悔老无德、胸中庸平、肩负双囊、定命四达。

    《关于宗教音乐会的畅想》节选

    2003年夏天的巴黎,一群来自中国北京西什库大教堂的年轻人,为正在法国举行的中国文化年(l’année de la chine en france),带来了一台特殊的宗教音乐会。当晚所演出的曲目,伴奏都是中国传统民族乐器,曲调颇具四百年前(明万历年间)的南昆风韵,曲词也均以文言文写成。但谁能想象,这些中国风味浓郁的曲目,词曲作者竟然不是中国人,而是当年来自意大利的传教士利玛窦,一共八首合唱曲,总称为《西琴曲意》。
      
      但其实,这一台音乐会的特殊,并不仅在于所演出的曲目是由西方人所创作的中式音乐,而是因为《西琴曲意》八首曲谱的失而复得。
      
      原来,前面提到的北京西什库大教堂,正是罗马天主教在中国地区的总堂,历史上是一座“枢机(红衣)主教座堂”,也是中国唯一的“敕造天主堂”,始建年代可以追溯至明朝。当年,利玛窦在广东、澳门一代学习了中国文化之后来到北京,为了使天主教文化融入中国传统,他借用中式曲调创作了《西琴曲意》以及其他一些宗教音乐。然而四百年间风云变迁,西什库教堂的两次搬迁,数度火险,尤其是20世纪初的义和团运动,最终另这些曲谱通通遗失。一百年来,人们只能从少量遗留下来曲词去研究那段历史。
      
      正当所有人都以为《西琴曲意》早已失传的时候,2002年,一位法国汉学家通过种种渠道,终于联系上了西什库教堂唱经班的负责人,他说他在法国某大学的图书馆里,发现了一些四百年前来自西什库教堂的资料,其中有西什库教堂当年的晚祷曲谱,有可能的话,他希望这些曲谱能回到西什库教堂,就有这些西什库教堂的后人去演绎这些原汁原味的中式圣歌。在这些晚祷曲谱中,竟然就有全套的《西琴曲意》!
      
      就这样,西什库教堂唱经班的年轻人用不到一年时间,将这些曲目重新的排练出来,他们不但在巴黎成功的演出,更是让这些“失传”多年的音乐重新的在中国的教堂内响起。这些记录了中世纪中西文化交流历史的文化遗产,就这样传奇般的失而复得。
      
      如今,这些曲目都已灌录成cd,专辑名为《西什库教堂明清晚祷》,cd的封面,正是一副与这些音乐相得益彰的中式圣母像(原作至今保存在西什库教堂),画像的作者,也是一位来自西方的传教士,郎世宁。

    谁识人类之情也?
    Who can distinguish the circumstances of mankind?
    人也者,乃反树耳。
    Take people, for example: they seem to be the opposite of trees.
    树之根本在地,而从土受养,
    A tree's roots are in the earth, so it receives its nourishment from the ground;
    其干枝向天而竦。
    its trunk and branches respectfully incline towards heaven.
    人之根本向乎天,而自天承育,
    People's roots are inclined towards heaven, thus from heaven receiving nurture;
    其干枝垂下。
    but our trunk and limbs extend downwards.
    君子之知,知上帝者,
    What civilized people know is God's knowledge.
    君子之学,学上帝者,
    What civilized people learn is God's learning,
    因以择诲眾也。
    so one uses this in selecting how to instruct the people. 上帝之心,惟多怜恤苍生,
    The heart of God only only great sympathy for the common people,
    少许霹靂伤人,
    and seldom allows rumbling thunder to harm people.
    当使日月照,而照无私方矣!
    When (God) causes the sun and moon to shine, it shines not in private places.
    常使雨雪降,而降无私田兮!
    (God) often causes the rain and snow to fall, but it falls not on private fields.


    ※ 二章 牧童游山, A Shepherd Boy Wandering in the Hills (see Spence)

    牧童忽有忧,
    A shepherd boy fell sad one day,
    即厌此山,
    Hating the hillside on which he stood;
    而远望彼山
    He thought a distant hill he saw
    之如美,
    More beautiful by far,
    可雪忧焉。
    And that going there would wipe away his sorrows.
    至彼山,
    So he set off to that distant hill,
    近彼山,
    But as he drew near to it
    近不若远矣。
    It looked less good than it had from afar.
    牧童、牧童
    O shepherd boy, shepherd boy,
    易居者寧易己乎?
    How can you expect to transform yourself By changing your dwelling place?
    汝何往而能离己乎?
    If you move away can you leave yourself behind?
    忧乐由心萌,
    Sorrow and joy sprout in the heart.
    心平随处乐,
    If the heart is peaceful, you'll be happy everywhere,
    心幻随处忧,
    If the heart is in turmoil, every place brings sorrow.
    微埃入目,
    A grain of dust in your eye
    人速疾之,
    Brings discomfort speedily;
    而尔宽於串心之锥乎?
    How can you then ignore this sharp awl That pierces your heart?
    已外尊己,
    If you yearn for things outside yourself
    固不及自得矣,
    You will never obtain what you are seeking.
    奚不治本心,
    Why not put your own heart in order
    而永安於故山也?
    And find peace on your own hillside?
    古今论皆指一耳。
    Old and new writers alike give this advice:
    游外无益,
    There's no advantage to roaming outside,
    居内 有利矣!
    Keep the heart inside, for That brings the profit.


    ※ 三章 善计寿修,The Proper Way to Calculate Longevity

    善知计寿修否?
    Do you properly understand how to calculate longevity, or not?
    不徒数年月多寡,
    Do not merely count the number of years and months, 惟以德行之积,
    盛量己之长也。
    Instead consider the accumulation of virtuous actions, as this is one's best measure of length.
    不肖百纪,执及贤者一日之长哉!
    Living less than a century, worthy people grasp the whole length of each day!
    有为者,其身虽未久经世,
    Productive ones: even if they have not spent long in society,
    而足称耆耄矣。
    they are equal to those who live into their 60s or 70s
    上帝加我一日,以我改前日之非,
    If God gives me one extra day, it is so I can change yesterday's errors,
    而进於德域一步。
    And go forward one further step into a state of virtue.
    设令我空费寸尺之宝,因岁之集,
    If I waste precious time, then as the years accumulate,
    集己之咎,
    This fault itself then accumulates.
    夫诚负上主之慈旨矣。
    And this really goes against God's compassionate purpose.
    呜呼!恐再復祷寿,
    Alas! I fear again and again praying for a long life.
    寿不可得之,非我福也。
    Long life is not there for the taking, that is not our good fortune.


    ※ 四章 德之勇巧, The Valiant Art of Virtue

    琴瑟之音虽雅,
    The sounds of ancient zithers (qin se10), although elegant,
    止能盈广寓,和友朋,
    Can only fill a great hall, bringing harmony to friends,
    径迄墙壁之外,而乐及邻人。
    Or extend beyond the garden walls, bringing pleasure to neighbors.
    不如德行之声之洋洋,
    This is not equal to the grandeur of the sounds of virtuous action,
    其以四海为界乎!
    Which have the whole world as a boundary!
    寰宇莫载,
    (Actually,) the whole world cannot contain it,
    则犹通天之九重,
    And so it even penetrates the nine layers of heaven.
    浮日月星辰之上,
    Floating above the sun, moon and stars,
    悦天神而致天主之宠乎!
    It pleases the heavenly spirits and gains the esteem of the Lord of Heaven!
    勇哉,大德之成,
    How valiant! It is an achievement of great virtue,
    能攻苍天之金刚石城,
    It can have influence in the diamond city of heaven!
    而息至威之怒矣!
    And it can appease the wrath of the most majestic!
    巧哉,德之大成,
    How artful, the achievement of virtue;
    有闻於天,
    Having been heard in heaven,
    能感无形之神明矣!
    It can move the formless heavenly hosts.


    ※ 五章 悔老无德,Regretting old age without virtue

    余春年渐退,有往无復,
    My youth has gradually receded: there is going forward but no repeating.
    蹙老暗侵,莫我恕也。
    As I approach old age and darkness invades, no one shares my feelings.
    何为乎窄地而营广厦,
    How to go about it, with narrow land build a grand mansion,
    以有数之日,图无数之谋歟?
    Or with a limited number of days, plan an unlimited number of schemes?
    幸获今日一日,即亟用之勿失。
    Enjoy having each and every day, and eagerly use them without fail.
    吁!毋许明日,明日难保;
    Alas, one cannot depend on tomorrow: tomorrow is hard to guarantee.
    来日之望,止欺愚乎?
    Hopes for future days: they just cheat the foolish.
    愚者罄日立於江涯,俟其涸,
    Fools stand all day on the riverbank, waiting for it to dry up,
    而江水汲汲流於海,终弗竭也。
    But rivers flow tirelessly to the sea, never ending in exhaustion.
    年也者,具有輶翼,莫怪其急飞也。
    Years: they all have light wings, do not wonder at their speedy flight.
    吾不怪年之急飞,而惟悔吾之懈进。
    I do not wonder at the years' speedy flight, just regret my own procrastination.
    已夫!老将臻而德未成矣。
    Alas! As old age reaches its extreme, virtues can no longer be perfected!


    ※ 六章 胸中庸平,Inner balance

    胸中有备者,常衡乎靖隐,
    Those who in the heart have completeness are often at ease with quiet solitude;
    不以荣自扬扬,不以穷自抑抑矣。
    Not using prosperity for self-flattery, or poverty for self-limitation.
    荣时则含惧,而穷际有所望,
    Prosperous times contain fears, while poverty has hopes,
    乃知世之势无常耶!
    And so we realize that world conditions are never constant!
    安心受命者,改命为义也。
    Those who calmly endure their fate can change their fate properly.
    海岳巍巍,树於海角,
    As for sea cliffs so lofty, and trees along sea headlands:
    猛风鼓之,波浪伐之,不动也。
    Fierce winds batter them, waves chop at them, but they do not move.
    异於我浮梗荡漾,竟无内主,
    How different from my floating on a log in vast waves, really having no inner balance,
    第外之飘流是从耳。
    And so in the external drifting currents just following along.
    造物者造我乎宇内,为万物尊,
    The Creator created me in the world, of all creatures the most honorable,
    而我屈己於林总,为其僕也。
    But I submit myself to the great collection of all, becoming its servant.
    惨兮惨兮!
    Misery! Misery!
    孰有抱德勇智者, 能不待物弃己,
    Who of those who embrace the strength and knowledge of virtue, can avoid dependence on things and forget themselves,
    而己先弃之,斯拔於其上乎?
    And having first forgotten themselves, then promote others above themselves?
    曰﹕「吾赤身且来,赤身且去,
    Say, "My physical body not only comes, it also goes.
    惟德殉我身之后也,他物谁可之共歟!」
    It is only virtue that can be buried with the remnants of my body, who could have something else!"


    ※ 七章 肩负双囊,Shouldering two sacks

    夫人也,识己也难乎?欺己也易乎?
    For anyone, isn't understanding difficult? Isn't deception easy?
    昔有言,凡人肩负双囊。
    Formerly it was said, whenever anyone on their shoulder carries two sacks.
    以胸囊囊人非,
    They use the sack on their chest to carry others' faults,
    以背囊囊己慝兮。
    (but) use the sack on their back to carry their own evil deeds.
    目俯下易见他恶,
    With eyes bowed down it is easy to see other's evil,
    回首顾后囊,
    (But) turning a head to look at the sack on their back,
    而觉自丑者希兮!
    They think their own shameful acts are insignificant!
    观他短乃龙睛17, 视己失即瞽目兮。
    To look at other's shortcomings one uses dragon eyes; to see one's own failings one has blind eyes.
    默泥氏一日滥刺毁人。
    Parmenides one day was excessively lashing out, reviling people.
    或曰,「汝独无咎乎?
    Someone said, "Are you alone without defect?
    抑思昧吾儕歟?」
    Or thinking of muffling us?"
    曰,「有哉?或又重兮,惟今吾且自宥兮!」
    He said, "Is it there? Perhaps it is also important, only now I also myself forgive."
    嗟嗟!待己如是宽也,诚闇矣!
    Alas! Treating oneself thus so leniently, it is certainly short-sighted.
    汝宥己,人则盍宥之?
    If you yourself forgive, then why would people not forgive you?
    余制虐法,人亦以此绳我矣。
    If I decide on harsh rules, others also use these to restrain me.
    世寡无过者,过者纤乃贤耳。
    Society rarely has no transgressors, transgressors clever as your goodself.
    汝望人恕汝大痈,而可不恕彼小疵乎?
    Do you expect them to forgive your big warts, while (you) can avoid forgiving their minor blemishes?


    ※ 八章 定命四达,Death reaches everywhere (see Menegon)

    呜呼!世之芒芒,
    Alas! In the bustle of the world,
    流年速逝,逼生人也。
    years go by and quickly reach an end, pressuring on the living.
    月面日易,月易银容,
    The silver face of the moon changes every month.
    春花红润,暮不若旦矣。
    But the rosy softness of spring flowers withers from morning to evening!
    若虽才,而才不免肤皱,
    No matter what your beauty, you cannot avoid wrinkles,
    弗禁鬢白。
    nor stop hair from becoming white.
    衰老既诣,
    When old age and decrepitude arrive,
    迅招乎凶,
    they rapidly summon the lethal night upon you,

    定命四达,不畏王宫,

    What is the use in making so many efforts to avoid the heat of summer?

    Soon you will have to separate yourself forever from your wife, your relatives, your friends.
    纵有深室,青金明朗,
    If you have a beautiful house, decorated with precious things,

    maybe someone else will come and live in it.
    岂无所爱?
    Is there anything you do not love about it?
    苑囿百树,
    However, none of the numerous trees in your garden,
    非松即楸,
    except for the pine and the catalpa,
    皆不殉主丧也。
    will survive after the funeral of the master.
    日渐苦,萃财贿,
    All the riches you have accumulated with so much effort day after day

    看明末清初的画作,那时的传教士还穿儒服,觉得蛮亲切的。可能那时的的中国文化处于世界强势的原因吧。

    Review:
    The baroque music ensemble "XVIII-21 Musiques des Lumieres" meets "Fleur de Prunus",
    a traditional Chinese music ensemble. "Chinese divertissements" composed by the Jesuits,
    Christian songs performed on Chinese instruments…
    they reconstruct a concert as could be given at the court of the Chinese Emperor,
    in the "Palace of the Delights of Harmony" at the time (18th century)
    when missionaries were instrumentalists and composers.

    Fleur de Prunus &
    XVIII-21 Musique des lumieres
    Italian tunes from the 18th century played by Jesuits at the court of the emperor of China,
    and Chinese tunes played by the musicians from this very same court that the very same
    Jesuits came to christianize: this recording is the result of a genuine two years encounter,
    the achievement of a mutual listening between these two musical ensembles,
    a kind of historical reconstitution.
    The subtle superposition of the musics and of the contemporary instruments is very successful,
    leading to unexpected harmonies and paces.
    One will note on this album the participation of serpent player Michel Godard.

    花了N久终于把圣母经内容揣摩懂咯,跟现在的文言版还是有点区别

    另成都平安桥天主堂主体不是中国式的建筑,它是拜占庭式的,上面那些图片是主教府内部,还记得以前门外还有照壁,可惜后来阔街给拆了.
