我们彼此客套寒暄，
并说这是多年后难得的重逢。

我们的老虎啜饮牛奶。
我们的鹰隼行走于地面。
我们的鲨鱼溺毙水中。
我们的野狼在开着的笼前打呵欠。

我们的毒蛇已褪尽闪电，
猴子——灵感，孔雀——羽毛。
蝙蝠——距今已久——已飞离我们发间。

在交谈中途我们哑然以对，
无可奈何地微笑。
我们的人
无话可说。

Niespodziane spotkanie

Jesteśmy bardzo uprzejmi dla siebie,
twierdzimy, że to miło spotkać się latach.

Nasze tygrysy pija mleko.
Nasze jastrzębie chodzą pieszo.
Nasze rekiny toną w wodzie.
Nasze wilki ziewają przed otwartą klatką.

Nasze żmije otrząsneły się z błyskawic,
małpy z natchnień, pawie z piór.
Nietoperze jakże dawno uleciały z naszych włosów.

Milkniemy w połowie zdania
bez ratunku usmiechnięci.
Nasi ludzie
nie umieją mówić z sobą.

Unexpected Meeting

We are very polite to each other,
insist it’s nice meeting after all these years.

Our tigers drink milk.
Our hawks walk on the ground.
Our sharks drown in water.
Our wolves yawn in front of the open cage.

Our serpents have shaken off lightning,
monkeys---inspiration, peacocks---feathers.
The bats---long ago now---have flown out of our hair.

We fall silent in mid-phrase,
smiling beyond salvation.
Our people
have nothing to say.
