Cosmic storms will rumble through the heavens in early August, but you may be one of the very fortunate ones who will be blissfully unaware of all that's happening to others. Planks will be falling, the ship will be rocking, and you'll be swinging in your hammock, reading your iPad, completely unaware that the boat nearly capsized. When told the captain had a near miss, you'll look up blankly and say, "What are you talking about?"

No man is an island, however, so you might want to know what is going on, because you may notice tension in the air in your interaction with friends, family, and others around you.

A very rare grand cross will be forming in deep space that will involve a crowd of planets in cardinal signs - that's why we will call this a cardinal cross. These types of crosses of planets are very rare because in order to have one, you would need at least four planets at 90-degree angles to another planet, all planets within an eight-degree orb within the cardinal group of signs, forming a perfect box pattern. Every element will be represented: fire (Aries), air (Libra), earth (Capricorn), and water (Cancer). Two sets of planets would have to be approximately 180 degrees apart to form two oppositions to complete a true cardinal cross.

This month's cardinal cross is much more extreme than the qualifying standard I just described. With no less than ten squares and seven oppositions, and with all planets orbiting within a 5-degree window, this will be a major cardinal cross, one for the record books. I have looked into the future, but cannot find another one anything like this due to occur again in our lifetime on this level.

You will see a buildup of tension, especially in those who have a cardinal Sun in Aries, Libra, Cancer, or Capricorn and who were born at the very start of their respective signs. You are a fixed sign, but you do have cardinal signs on the cusps of some of the houses in your horoscope - everyone does. In addition, you might have planets in cardinal signs too, but I can't see those from where I sit. If you do, those planets will become sensitized.

The planets involved in this rare configuration will be Pluto, Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus, and the transiting moon in Cancer. Because four of the planets are key outer planets - Uranus, your ruler, is among them - this cardinal cross is a powerful one. Capricorn is one of the signs most highlighted, and the sign of the June 26 eclipse, which will be again activated by this cardinal cross. By that I mean that you may hear news as a result of that eclipse, and Mars will reach the exact degree to trigger a message.

Your solar chart has Capricorn on the cusp of your twelfth house, ruling intuition and all things that happen behind closed doors, hidden from view. This is a "cadent" house, being somewhat weak, so I don't feel you will notice much from the cardinal cross. However, if someone has been keeping a secret from you, it could come out on August 6 or 7, and that would be quite a revelation.

The lunar eclipse on June 26 brilliantly lit this part of your chart several weeks ago, so you may have been privy to certain things going on out of your purview. However, if no one tried to hide anything from you, of course, the eclipse would have nothing to reveal to you. Eclipses look for weak links, and this cardinal cross is working with the eclipse to reveal anything it uncovers. This cardinal cross is capable of triggering messages of the June 26 eclipse, so if there is still something you need to know, you would discover this now, between August 6 and 13.

The twelfth house, being lit up in your chart in August's first week, is also the house of confinement - hospitals, rehab centers, prisons - meant to transform or heal the mind, body, or spirit of an individual. You may decide to go in for help, or you may know someone who is in the hospital who needs an advocate - that would be you.

The other two houses that the cardinal cross will light have to do with intellectual exploration, perception, and the formation of opinion. When planets refuse to cooperate with each other as they are doing now, they force facts into the open - there is no covering up things under a grand cross. In weeks to come, you may find out something that will change your opinion or stance on a matter, much to your surprise.

In the news, you may hear of a scandal that surprises everyone. Because Capricorn and Cancer are financial signs - and they are being highlighted - the stock market is rocking again, this time in a more extreme way than it has previously since June. You may also see some extreme weather in the news, and possibly an earthquake somewhere in the world. I hope none of these things will happen! You have been through many ups and downs ever since Saturn entered your house of credit, taxes, and other people's money in September 2007. Matters were further complicated by Uranus' presence in your other financial house, namely, your second house of earned income.

In terms of your personal resources and money, you have hosted Saturn in your eighth house of other people's money since September 2007, and Saturn was partly to blame for several years of difficulties. Uranus, your ruler, was in the opposite, second house of earned income, and when Saturn opposed Uranus since November 2008, you likely struggled more.

This month, with Venus opposing Uranus on August 7, and Saturn still close enough to challenge Uranus and Mars, stirring the pot on July 30 (and still close enough to be difficult during the first week of August), it is clear you've not yet solved all your financial problems. You are in the process of doing so, and you are almost out of the woods, so stay the course. You are so close to closing the door on this chapter, as soon as early March 2011.

Now let's look at other parts of your chart, namely your efforts to merge energies with another person in a romantic or business sense. One close, serious relationship will be your focus at the lyrical new moon in Leo on August 9, and in the two weeks that follow. Falling in your house of commitment, if you are hoping to wed, or hoping to sign a new agent or business partner, talks would start to move into high gear now. One element in your mind will be how much autonomy you will have in this relationship, for matters involving identity and freedom, and conversely, closeness and unity, will be a topic of conversation. You will be working on finding the right balance.

Neptune in Aquarius will be close to this new moon, but not close enough to cause serious problems. Perhaps you'll become inspired by your partner and work to create a whole that is bigger than the sum of the parts.


Nevertheless, I will suggest that you ask lots of questions and check your assumptions. Finances may be one sticking point, so don't dismiss any points that could later give you problems. With Mercury retrograde, any assumptions you make could be wrong. There is no harm in going slowly.

Truly, Mercury will be causing confusion and disorganized thinking all month. Although Mercury won't retrograde until August 20 (to continue until September 12), you will see Mercury start to cause problems from the moment the month begins. One of the biggest problems with Mercury retrograde is that nobody is ever at their best and seeing the big picture. If you make a binding agreement before September 15, as things unfold in the future, you may find areas you never thought about and later say, "What was I thinking?"

Conditions will be changing now, and you won't know precisely how until later. That's why you need to put off having important talks, announcements, and agreements (both verbal and written), until mid-September.

Last month, on July 21, Saturn finally left Virgo after having taunted you with difficult financial conditions since September 2007. You won't miss Saturn - in fact, you should celebrate. A new day is dawning, and once you say goodbye to your ruler, Uranus, in Pisces in March 2011, you will be completely liberated from challenging financial matters. It will be as if you moved to an entirely new territory, dear Aquarius. Conditions will be THAT different!

For now, you will likely get some happy financial news on the full moon, August 24, plus or minus four days. It seems to have something to do with a better salary, either through working at a new job or getting a raise. If you are self-employed, you may now get an important new client. Pluto will be very helpful to that full moon, so it seems you have a powerful, influential VIP person who will speak up for you behind the scenes, dear Aquarius. You may not even know about this person's kind support and intervention on your behalf.

Romantically, there will be one dud of a day - Saturday, August 7. It's not because the cardinal cross will appear on that day (although that won't help), but rather because Venus will oppose your ruler Uranus. Unexpected problems in love and travel will come up, so you'd be better off hiding under the blankets in your apartment than venturing out into the world. Some days it just doesn't pay to do anything special when it comes to socializing - this is one of those weekends.

Travel will be strongly linked to love, and there will be one day you should circle in red on your calendar: August 20. On this glorious day, Venus and Mars, the two cosmic lovers, will have a rare rendezvous in fellow air sign Libra. These two dazzling planets will meet in your house of long distance travel, cultural affairs, and study, so if you are single, any of these areas, from taking a trip overseas, signing up for a course, or visiting a museum, could be where you have your intriguing first meeting.

If you were born on February 2, plus or minus four days, you will have exceptional luck from this exceedingly rare conjunction of Venus and Mars. Good luck!

Venus will tour Libra from August 7 to September 8, making this a lyrical time for love and romance, but as said especially on or near August 20.

Saturn will hover near Venus during the week of August 7-14, so you may find at that time that any new partner (if you should make the acquaintance of someone interesting), is 1) much older than you (and this holds whether you are a man or a woman) or that, 2) your partner will often be separated from you by geography, reasons of work or study, or for any other reason through no fault of your own. Still, you may not be deterred by these little conditions, so see how you feel.

Mars will be supportive to your Sun all month, giving you vitality, enthusiasm, and radiance, and these are all qualities that score high on the charisma scale! It looks like you have some nice days coming, especially in the second half. Keep in mind, though, that Mercury will be retrograde, so when you make a date, double check the address and time of the meeting.

Your best romantic days will be: August 17, 20 (four-star), 21-22, 28-29, and 31.


Summary

It's time to decide what to do about a close relationship, but thanks to Neptune's penchant for churning out a profusion of fog - pretty but not very helpful - you may not have all the facts you need to make a proper decision. As the sign of the scientist, when the chips are down, you pride yourself with your clearheaded and objective thinking. After the new moon in your committed partnership sector August 9, you may feel like your head is in a blender. Confusion might reign, so do yourself a favor and slow down - there's no need to rush a decision about this relationship.

Could it be that your significant other is being less than transparent with you? Perhaps, but it could also be that you'll become carried away by the spirit of the moment because, admittedly, it WILL be quite a glamorous month. We all love fog - it obscures every flaw! Stay grounded. If you know your partner well, then go ahead - celebrate your love and make plans for the future, but if not, you may regret buying wedding rings in a pawn shop (it's a recession after all) and running off to City Hall. With Mercury retrograde until mid-September, you'd do best to talk, but not actually set dates and make promises just yet.

If your plans for a partner are business-based, you can make plans to work together, but with Mercury starting to spin backward from August 20 to September 12, you will find many areas that still need to be discussed. Delays will benefit you, so don't push for answers - take your time.

If single, love may turn very troublesome over the weekend of August 7-8. With Uranus, your ruler, opposing Venus, quite the opposite, things could turn disastrous.

Romance should go far better over subsequent weekends in August, and especially so over the dazzling day of August 20 when Venus and Mars will set off quite a display of romantic fireworks. Your runner-up weekend, almost as sparkly, falls August 28-29 when the moon will be in "I'll try anything" Aries, the most adventuresome of all signs. It may be the ideal weekend to go camping or do some vigorous sports with your special partner.

If you were hoping to travel this month, you can, thanks to loving Mars and Venus, acting like your BFFs. You'll fan the fires of love on any journey you take together. Everyone needs change, so go ahead, book that trip!

In case you were thinking of staying home and working on your computer for the rest of August, think about it - is that such a good idea? There's just so much Twittering and Facebooking you can do before you run out of things to say - find an adventure! "I am standing on the subway platform and am frightened by the herd of stampeding people getting off the train who could throw me onto the tracks" isn't nearly as interesting to write on your Facebook page as, "I'm in a Jeep on a safari and in hot pursuit of a herd of wild elephants that I am photographing against a huge setting African sun - a sun that looks as big as Mars!" Think about it, dear Aquarius. Go!

A partnership matter will be your focus after the new moon August 9.

Mercury will retrograde in your home sector from August 20 to September 12, so you may find you can go back to making repairs and other things on your to-do list, such as to clean out closets.

This month would not be the time to close on a house or to sign any important papers. Don't give a verbal response either. This is a watch and wait month, not a month to initiate actions.

Travel will be an option this month, so take full advantage, but do yourself a favor and go in the second half, not in the first half when things could go very wrong (especially on August 7-8 and 13).

The full moon of August 24 plus or minus four days will be the time to settle a financial matter or obligation, or to hear about a raise if you had asked for one earlier. You will have help from mighty Pluto. so you should like the results. If you want a raise, ask!
