各位展友：大家好！
谢谢提出这个话题。前面几位发言非常好！
我手头正好有本十多年前的朗文英语词典，随便找出下面这些与“展览”相关的英文词，加上一点自己的理解，和大家分享。如果大家还发现有其它的词，也可以添加、讨论。如果对我提供的这些词及其定义有不同意见或补充意见，也请提出来和大家分享。

1）Exhibition:
A public show of objects.
泛指“展览”（商业、艺术、等等），比较正式。现在的网络展览，也用这个词（online exhibition），但并不见得是展示实物。
2）Exhibit:
Something or a set of things exhibited. AME for EXHIBITION。
一般指“展品”。美国英语中也指“展览”，比较随便。
3）Display:
V. to arrange or spread out for public view.
N. an act of displaying something, or something that is displayed.
指“展示”、“陈列”、或“演示”。也指“展示的东西”。比如焰火表演（firework display），商店橱窗的水果展示(display of fruit)，都可用这个词。在博物馆里的固定陈列，也用这个词(permanent display)。
４）Exposition:
An international show (exhibition) of the products of industry.
指“国际博览会”，特别是工业产品博览会。简称“Expo”。规模通常很庞大，目的主要是展示成果，达成合作，并不主要为了现场交易。
５）Show:
V. to offer for seeing; allow or cause to be seen；To put on view, esp. to be judged at a show; exhibit. N. a public showing; collecting of things for the public to look at; exhibition.
“展览”之意，与exhibition和exhibit 基本同义，规模可大可小，但表达时更随便。比如在画廊举办的展览可能就更多地用show 这个词。而在大的博物馆举办的展览可能就更多地用exhibition这个词。
6）Fair:
A market, esp. one held at a particular place at regular periods for selling farm produce; A very large show of goods, advertising, etc.
指“交易会”。比如说图书交易会(book fair)。当然也有艺术品交易会（art fair），目的主要是商业交易。如目前国内举办的艺术博览会，就实际上是艺术交易会，谁都可以摆摊，而不是严格意义上的画廊博览会。
其它一些与展览相关的词还有：
7）Preview:
A private showing of paintings, a cinema film, etc. before they are shown to the general public.
“预展”之意。比如说拍卖会举办之前的预展，通常主要面向买家，目的并不是为了公众参观。有些博物馆举办的大型艺术展览，也举办预展，提前向部分特殊的观众（如贵宾、会员、媒体记者）开放，随后才对普通观众开放。
8）Solo Show（Exhibition)：
“个展”之意。指一个艺术家的作品展。通常规模不大，也不像回顾展那么全面。
9）Group Show (Exhibition):
“群展”之意。指同时展示多个艺术家作品的展览。
10）Retrospective/ Retrospective Exhibition:
A show of the work of a painter, sculptor, etc. from his earliest years up to the present time.
“回顾展”之意。展示的是一个艺术家不同时期、不同风格的作品。规模通常较大。
11）Invitational Exhibition:
“邀请展”之意。国内艺术界经常举办这样的展览，由某机构或组织者提名邀请某些艺术家参加特定主题的展览。
12）Travel Exhibition:
“巡回展”之意。一个展览巡回到多个地点（城市）展出。这种展览也很常见。
