Eleni Karaindrou出生在希腊的小山村Teichio，那里地处希腊中部，四周环山。她在雅典长大，并在Hellenikon Odion学习钢琴演奏和理论。从1969年到1974年她在巴黎学习人种音乐学，回到希腊后在ORA文化中心创立了传统乐器研究所。

为Angelopoulos http://www.douban.com/group/Angelopoulos/的电影所做的原声音乐令Eleni Karaindou闻名全欧洲，不过她也和其他一些重要的欧洲导演合作，如Chris Marker, Jules Dassin, Margharethe Von Trotta等。
