"Apichatpong Weerasethakul is one of a new generation of filmmakers who is inventing film completely in a new cultural context. We think, in the West, we know what film can do. Apichatpong creates film as an incantation, as a magic spell, as a shaman sequence where you actually have images that penetrate your life and body in very unexpected ways. The question in the 21st century is: what can film accomplish, what are the possibilities of the medium that we have barely explored?" (Peter Sellars)
