英国伯恩茅斯大学(Bournemouth University)的国家电脑动画中心成立于1989年,是英国数字科技领域主要的研究中心之一。国家电脑动画中心的基本理念是电脑动画作为艺术和科学二者的结合,进行了国际化的重要研究并且在英国开创了电脑动画模拟游戏机生产。其从业者必须具备创造和技术双重的理解和素质。

Computer animation is one of the most rapidly expanding areas of creative endeavour and technical development. Some of the more visible applications of 3D computer animation are seen in animated sequences in feature films and television, digital special effects in feature films, computer games, computer animated simulation rides and interactive virtual environments. The field has many other surprisingly prominent and equally important applications such as influencing or rejuvenating of current research and scientific innovation, as well cultivating cross cultural relationships.
The talk will focus on the digital economy in the 21st century, strategy for research, development and integrated solutions with business applications, in everything from computer games to surgery!

Speakers’ background:
Nick Petford
Pro-Vice-Chancellor
Professor Petford is a former Royal Society University research fellow and fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge as well as a renowned author of papers, book reviews and other articles. A graduate of the University of London and University of Liverpool he also spent time as a researcher at Liverpool and Cambridge. He has worked with the oil company BP and also as a journalist for the Times Higher.
Nick’s position as the Vice Chancellor, with a focus on research, has allowed him to develop crucial commercial links at Bournemouth University with other international partners and institutions which he sees as an integral part of the forward looking nature of the University.
He sees the link between enterprise and academic research as crucial. He has developed links that integrate the cutting edge research with the commercially applicable uses. Recently as a direct result of this dedication to research partnerships, Bournemouth University has tripled its quality-related research funding and has recently received £6.3M in research funding to launch an Industrial Doctorate Centre in Computer Animation jointly with the University of Bath.

Bournemouth University’s National Centre for Computer Animation is a leading centre in the UK for everything digital. The fundamental philosophy of The National Centre for Computer Animation is that the field of computer animation represents the marriage between art and science and that practitioners in this innovative and exciting field need a good understanding of both the creative and the technical processes involved.
Since its establishment in 1989 it has pioneered both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in computer visualisation and animation, conducted research of international significance and pioneered the production of computer animated simulation rides in the UK. Students and staff have had their work screened internationally and have gained numerous prizes.
