1,当我写这篇文字的的时候,我一边绞尽脑汁地低着头一边双手交叉地轮流挠着头发,眼睛的余光却发现自己电子邮件上显示的日期是3905年3月4日,星期五。这时我意识到,我的画,我的文字,将会从一个错乱的时空发送到另一个有序的时空,而我这个人,将继续生存在一个错乱,甚至粗俗的时空里,因为我眼前的日期依然是3905年3月4日,星期五。所以我将继续制作着这这些既粗暴又有点像垃圾的而生活在有序时空里的人将它称为“绘画”的东西。
2,一直以来,对电影很宽容,对音乐很挑剔。所以不喜欢闭目养神地听音乐,而更愿意边看电影边感受与影象参合杂交的电影配乐。这样,我知道了有个叫做久石让的音乐家。他的音乐,有“花火”这样极度悲情、消极的声调,也有“Summer"(菊次郎的夏天)这样的温馨甜美曲调,又有“坏孩子的天空”这样既想励志又参合着“混乱的悲观情绪”的中庸之调。但花火再悲情,再消极,也有让人振奋的舒缓变调,而“SUMMER”在温馨世界的表象下,悲观、急促的旋律不时地侵蚀你的耳朵。至于“坏孩子的天空”,则暗藏了自信、精良、阳光、理想、崇高、自卑、灰暗、粗暴、自然而然、矫柔造作众矛盾体抵消之后的“震撼人心的平庸”,是天籁之音。他的音乐,确实触动了我心灵深处的那根铉,使我更加偏执地喜欢“矛盾”这个词。并直接促进矛盾情绪在我的作品世界里的肆意蔓延。
3,我觉得我的绘画更忠实于自我心灵体验。是心情与心境的表达,是私密性的。可能会与现实主义背道而驰。
4,我画的隐士与战士其实是消极与激进两种相互矛盾的心境在自己内心的斗争。
5,我通过绘画,排遣了这样矛盾的心情,绘画对于我来说,是一个心灵自我救赎的过程。
—An account in Liu Hongyi's own words
1. As I was running the fingers of my hands through my hair endlessly and racking my brains writing this text, I noticed out of the corner of my eye that the date on my email was March 4th (Friday), 3905. Suddenly, I realized that my paintings and words would be transferred from a disordered space-time to another ordered one while I, as a physical existence, would have stayed in such a disordered and even vulgar space-time, since the date right in front of my eyes remained March 4th (Friday), 3905. Therefore, I would keep producing the thing called “painting” by those people who were living in the ordered space-time, barbarously and a little like rubbish.
2. So far, I keep tolerant of movies, but very particular about music. As a result, I prefer enjoying a movie and its soundtrack interweaving with images, to listening to music simply with my eyes closed. In this way, I heard about a musician called Joe Hisaishi, who composed such extremely mournful and passive melody in “HanaBi”, warm and sweet melody in “Summer” as well as the melody mixed aspirations with “pessimistic emotional disorder” in “Kids Return”. While people can be cheered by the slow melody in the mournful and passive “HanaBi”, they are also encroached by the rapid and pessimistic melody under the cover of the warm and comfortable world in “Summer”. In “Kids Return” the heaven’s harmony, numerous contradictory elements, namely, confidence, excellence, activeness, aspiration, sublimity, inferiority, gloom, savagery, naturalness and artificialness, cancel out each other, generating a kind of “striking tranquility”. I have to admit that his music is really playing my intrinsic heartstring and arousing my exclusive partiality for the word “contradictory”. Actually, it directly leads to reckless spread of contradictory emotions inside the world of my works.
3. I think that my paintings remain faithful to my inner mental experience. They are private expressions of my emotions and moods, and possibly appears opposite against realism.
4. In fact, the hermits and warriors in my paintings demonstrate the conflict of two contradictory emotions, namely passive and active, inside my heart.
5. I bring out such contradictory emotions in my paintings and experience a process of mental self-redemption while painting.
