Singapore Design Festival to explore design propositions of the future

The Festival theme, “Design2050: Possibilities for Tomorrow,” serves as a call to action for designers to consider how design can improve lives and create possibilities

The biennial Singapore Design Festival will take flight from 20 to 30 November 2009 with a wide range of design events and activities for designers, businesses and consumers. The activities span a broad spectrum of disciplines and the Festival serves as a good platform where participants can meet like-minded individuals, explore and exchange ideas as well as celebrate the best that the industry has to offer。

Highlights of 2009 Festival include

1. ICSID WORLD DESIGN CONGRESS SINGAPORE 2009
9 Design2050 studios, 4 keynote speakers and Congress facilitators will come together in an engaging interactive forum to propose solutions to many of today’s critical issues and challenges.

2. INDEX: ‘DESIGN TO IMPROVE LIFE’ EXHIBITION
An inspiring exhibition that presents design in five categories - Body, Home, Work, Play and Community, to address concerns relevant to people of all ages from all walks of life.

3. PORTFOLIO SHOW FOR YOUNG DESIGNERS
A curated showcase of the best collection of portfolios by young Singaporean or Singapore-based designers across all design disciplines; reflecting the progression and ambitions of Singapore design.

4. Design2050

Design is constantly carrying us towards the future. As we surf the web from sleek mobile phone handsets or tap away at a computer while we’re out enjoying coffee, we forget how recent these innovations were. The simple truth is that good design integrates seamlessly with its surroundings.

What will be the next innovation to quietly revolutionise our lives? At the Singapore Design Festival 2009, that’s exactly the question we’re asking. If so much has changed recently, surely the possibilities for the future must be more varied, wide ranging and eclectic.
