邱黯雄,成都人,1994年毕业于四川美术学院。那以后,他离开家乡,在深圳一家设计公司度过了一年;然后,他便回到成都,回归了他的艺术之路。1998年,他赴德国卡塞尔大学艺术学院学习,一去六年。留学经历给了他一个足够远的距离,发现属于自己的文化身份和东方智慧。2004年,他回归那片曾经身在其中的灯火阑珊处,定居上海。智慧之门渐渐在他的作品中打开。2005年,他创作了短片“江南错”,成为后来包括“新山海经”在内的一系列作品的开端。再后来,他的作品逐渐出现在世界的各个角落。每件作品都是一个契机,2009年,机缘的累积,让他终于第一次带着个展归来家乡。邱黯雄曾参加过很多国际性的重要展出及双年展,例如:巴塞尔艺术博览会,文献展等,也在世界各国成功举办过个展。
在聊了许久关于作品的问题之后,邱黯雄说:“其实艺术家不需要太复杂,越简单越好。”这句话看上去简单,但正如那“归去来兮”的感叹;其中的取舍不易,只有自己能体会。邱黯雄归来成都,虽然只是一次个展的时间,但回归本不能用时空来衡量。正如他所说,“时间和空间都是生命的造作的过程,本来虚妄不实”。 对邱黯雄来说,也许创造本身就是他的时空,他的归属。归去来,不需要陶渊明那般小隐田园;田园在何处,本来也只是心中的妄想。重要的不是田园,而是归去来。

十八年以前我还住在成都抚琴小区,沈晓彤说川美有个成都的学生跳霹雳舞很好。后来我真的看他表演了一次,并且知道这个学生当时的艺术趋向是比较观念的,他的名字叫“马达”。
他川美毕业后回到了成都开始画油画。开始他的画色彩是黑黑的但很有力量,并在1996年中国美术馆举办的“成都油画展”上很突出。不久他去了德国留学,真巧居然和我在德国留学时是一个城市,一个学校和一个老师,于是我们又成了校友和师兄。
九十年代末,“马达”从德国回来,画风突然变得带有中国传统绘画的因素,这有点像我刚刚从德国回来时的情况。区别是,“马达”生活变得简单并开始吃素了,性格也变得内向,与其他人交往也比较少了,只是他身边多了个“达娘”。
“马达”去了上海,有点出乎意料。一般内向的人去繁华的大都会都会死定了。前届2006上海双年展,有一个年轻艺术家创作的影像作品“新山海经”突然异军突起,其作品的观念和想象力也出乎意料,加上表现手法是中国传统风格的水墨形式,我想只有留学多年,具有国际视野,而又对中国传统笔墨感兴趣的人,才能创作出此类作品。他的名字开始在中国和国际上闻名,这个年轻艺术家叫邱黯雄,也叫“马达”,我的老乡和朋友。

Eighteen years ago I lived in Fuqin square in Chengdu. Shen Xiaotong told me that a student from Chengdu in Sichuan Fine Arts Academy was a break dance killer. Later I saw his show and knew that his art tendency is quite conceptial. His name is “Ma Da” (motor).
After graduated from university, he went back Chengdu and started doing oil painting. In the beginning, his paintings were quite dark but powerful and stood out in the “Chengdu Oil Painting Exhibition” at National Art Museum of China in 1996. Then he went to study in Germany. What a coincience that he was in the same city, same institute and with the same professors as I was when I had studied there. We are school mates and fellows again.
At the end of 1990s, “Ma Da” came back from Germany. His painting style moved closer to Chinese traditional paintings, which had also been my situation when I had just come back. The difference was that the life style of “Ma Da” turned simpler and he became a vegetarian. People saw more introversion in his personality and found fewer time to get along together with him. Another difference was that a “Da Girl” was with him.
It’s surprising that “Ma Da” moved to Shanghai. Generally an introverted person “dies” in a big modern city. In the last Shanghai Biennial in 2006, a new force suddenly rised as a young artist presented his video work “New Book of Mountains and Seas” with unexpected conception, imagination, and Chinese traditional paiting style. I thought only an artist with abroad experience, international view and interests in Chinese traditions could create this kind of work. His name became well-known in China and the world. This young artist is Qiu Anxiong, also called “Ma Da”, my old folk and friend.(收起)
