明日博物館第四檔計劃「TheVerticalVillage©」展覽，邀請荷蘭籍新銳建築設計團隊MVRDV擔任策展人，並以台北市松江路旁一塊1000坪的基地作為展演舞台，預定於2009年底正式開幕。
「TheVerticalVillage©」超越明日博物館前三檔展覽規模與思維向度，將「在地」的概念由基地範圍拓展至整座台北城，策展團隊MVRDV將延伸對於台北城市中非正式都市空間的觀察與研究，實際在此建造一座實驗性、臨時性的垂直村落，並結合國際設計工作營的運作，使「全球」與「在地」在此針對東亞城市空間交換彼此研究觀點。
北京的胡同、東京的町屋，以及台北城市裡的獨棟小屋，這些小尺度傳統的、非正式的都市空間構成了極度密集並且交流緊密的社區，形成都市裡一個個深具相異性的特色村落。而在過去十年間，為因應人口密集所帶來的壓力，東亞城市出現了許多巨型建築物，逐漸取代了這些較為傳統的、獨立的、有機的都市景觀，「TheVerticalVillage©」便希望探討：當現存的舊社區面對未來將改建成巨型建物的意圖威脅時，是否能透過其他方式為這些區域解決密度問題，並同時達成原有社群的保存與個性？
MVRDV邀請荷蘭台夫特科技大學建築所博士班所組成的The Why Factory研究機構，共同與國內四所建築都市與景觀研究所師生，展開為期五個月的研究與七天的國際設計工作營，以國際視野與在地觀點的交流激盪，對非正式的都市空間環境提出自由的論述觀點，結合實體建築創造出的都市微型縮影，帶領參與者一起重新詮釋屬於台北的獨特城市文化！

MVRDV是國際建築界中著名的新銳建築團隊，由Winy Maas、Jacob van Rijs和Nathalie de Vries於1995年在荷蘭鹿特丹成立。在3位合夥建築師的領導下，MVRDV的設計和研究遍及城市規劃、建築和景觀設計領域，透過事務所內部來自不同文化背景的國際建築師與都市規劃師合作，因應不同尺度的專案內容相互激發靈感。
MVRDV堅持追求對城市密度的理想和研究，藉由對當代建築和設計過程大量複雜的數據，進行分析、綜合、推演和構思，以深入研究單一建築和整體城市規劃的關係，從而對人類生活的空間展開獨特且深具建設性的思考，他們於1998-2005年間相繼出版的<FARMAX>、<MetaCity/Datatown>、<Costa Iberica>、<Regionmaker>、<5Minutes City>及<KM3>等專書都是集結這些研究成果的重要著作。
MVRDV的創作遍佈世界各地，其中許多都已成為當代建築史上的經典案例，如早期作品VPRO公共廣播公司總部、WoZoCo老人公寓，以及近年獲得國際建築獎的2000年德國漢諾威世博會「荷蘭館」、荷蘭埃茵霍溫Flight Forum創新商務園區、海牙Ypenburg住宅區、阿姆斯特丹Lloyd酒店、德國慕尼黑Unterfohring辦公園、日本千葉縣Matsudai藝術村中心、日本東京表參道Gyre商業中心等，都使得MVRDV在世界舞台上博得廣泛的關注。
MVRDV is an internationally renowned architecture office that was established in 1995 by Winy Maas, Jacob van Rijs, and Nathalie de Vries in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Under the leadership of these three architects, MVRDV’s designs and studies cover a wide-range of topics involving urbanism, architecture and landscape designs. The firm also collaborates with many international architects and urban planners from diverse backgrounds, and the diversities help to kindle inspirational sparks suitable for various projects.
Urban density remains a topic of pursuit and fascination for MVRDV. Through the complex amounts of data deriving from the processes of contemporary building and design, analyses, groupings, hypotheses, and conceptions take place, and profound studies are conducted on the relationship between a single architecture and the entire urbanism, where then constructive and unique thoughts are formed on humankind’s dwelling space. From 1998~2005, MVRDV has published FARMAX, MetaCity/Datatown, Costa Iberica, Regionmaker, 5Minutes City, and KM3, and these books have documented the important results from their studies.
MVRDV’s creative works are seen globally, and many have become classic examples in contemporary architectural history, such as the early projects of the headquarters for the Public Broadcasting Company VPRO and the WoZoCo housing for the elderly, and also the more recent Dutch Pavilion for the World EXPO 2000 in Hanover; an innovative business park Flight Forum in Eindhoven; the Silodam Housing complex in Amsterdam; the Hague urban housing Ypenburg; the Lloyd Hotel in Amsterdam; Unterfohring office campus near Munich; the Matsudai Cultural Centre in Japan; the commercial center Gyre in Omotesando, Tokyo; all of these projects have gained great international acclaims for MVRDV
