Launch of the Hudec exhibition
The Consulate General of the Republic of Hungary in Shanghai, together with the Shanghai Urban Planning Administration Bureau, the Shanghai Urban Construction Archives and the College of Architecture and Urban Planning of Tongji University are opening an exhibition about L.E. Hudec Hungarian architect on June 14th 2008.
L.E. Hudec (1893-1958) was a significant figure on Shanghai’s architecture in the 1920-30’s, he designed more than 60 buildings, and many of them still identify the scenery of Shanghai, like the Park Hotel, Moore Memorial Church, Grand Theater, Union Brewery, Wu’s House etc. This year has been dedicated to Hudec, and amongst the numerous interesting seminars, walking tours and other happening, this exhibition will be the major event of the „Year of Hudec”.
The exhibition is called „Architectural Excellence – Hudec in Shanghai”, and it will be opened from 14 June to 29 June, from 10 am to 4 pm every day. Many well-known people, experts and journalists are invited to the opening ceremony on Saturday, 14th June, which is the day of the Chinese Cultural Heritage and historical preservation. This day many Hudec’s buildings will be opened for the public.
The exhibition focuses not only at L.E. Hudec, the architect but also the man, who made a very long journey from Hungary to China, to become one of the most influential architects of the 20th century in Shanghai.
